With a view to ensuring quality education, the government has initiated a move to nationalise 285 private colleges across the country.
As per the ministry notice in this regard on Thursday last, the authorities concerned were asked to hand over movable and immovable properties of the colleges to the government.
The government has a plan that one college in each upazila will come under the nationalisation process.
The notice added the existing teachers of the colleges will not be able to transfer to any colleges for the time being.
Currently, there are 327 government colleges in the country. Once those 285 colleges are nationalised, the total number of the government will stand over 6 hundred.
