Meanwhile, police picked-up 10 people to interrogate them in connection with the murder of the local MP.
Abdullah Al-Mamun, mayor of the Sundarganj municipality, called the shutdown last night after unknown assailants opened fire on MP Liton inside his home in Bamondanga area of the upazila.
The hartal starting from 6:00am will continue till 6:00pm. All the shops remain closed due to the hartal, reports our local correspondent.
The body of Liton will be sent to Dhaka this morning where his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad. Later, the body will be brought back to Gaibandha for burial, UNB reports.
