BNP today said that the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference being hosted in Bangladesh is a farce as the host country is “undemocratic”.
BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir exposed the party’s views on the conference while speaking at a press briefing at Nayapaltan office in Dhaka.
Fakhrul welcomed the visiting delegations who gathered in the capital for the conference.
Terming Bangladesh “a country where the parliament does not represent the mass, the democratic institutions have been demolished and human rights violated grossly,” the BNP leader said: “It is astonishing that the IPU meet is being hosted here.”
The view was adopted in the party’s standing committee meeting – its policy-making forum – held last night, Fakhrul said in the press briefing.
