Kashimpur High Security Prison in Gazipur today received the executive order on the execution of Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islam Bangladesh (Huji) chief Mufti Abdul Hannan.
“The home ministry order stating that the president has rejected the mercy petition of Mufti Hannan arrived at the jail office around noon,” Mizanur Rahman, senior jail superintendent of Kashimpur High Security Prison, told The Daily Star.
Contacted, Touhidul Islam, deputy inspector general of Dhaka Range (jail), said “All necessary preparation to executive Mufti Hannan is underway as per the Jail Code.”
The Supreme Court on December 7 last year upheld the death penalties for three Huji militants, including Mufti Hannan, for carrying out a grenade attack on then UK envoy in Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury in 2004.
