Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said his party did not “compromise or forge an alliance” with the Islamists Hefajat-e-Islam.
“We did not compromise with Hefajat-e-Islam neither did we forge an alliance with them,” Obaidul said in reply to a question at Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office.
“True progressiveness is the ability to take practical decision considering the sentiment of the people,” Quader said. “Progressiveness is nothing beyond reality.”
Those who are alleging that we are using religion in politics or claiming that we have compromised with the communal forces are the ones who actually are using religion as a political weapon, he said.
His statement came in purview of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent meeting with Hefajat, where she acknowledged madrassa education and were in terms with some of their demands.
