The High Court will deliver its verdict on Tuesday on the death reference and appeals in a case filed over the killing of 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajan in Sylhet in 2015.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain on Mar 12 this year set today after hearing arguments from the counsels on the death reference and appeals.
Earlier on January 30, the High Court started hearing the death reference and appeals of the condemned convicts of the case.
Sylhet Metropolitan and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down death penalty to four persons, including Saudi expatriate Quamrul Islam, for killing Rajon on November 8, 2015.
On July 8, 2015, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
A video of the gruesome incident was uploaded on the internet creating firestorm across the country.
Within two days of the murder, prime suspect Kamrul Islam fled to Saudi Arabia. He was then extradited back to Bangladesh after the video was investigated.
